This is a canvas I painted for my best friends christmas present last year, I've only just remember to photograph it and upload the photo! Whoops. I'm annoyed I couldn't get the dots more even but there we go.

What you could try if you did ever want perfect dots is measure where the middle of the dots are on op of the paint with marker pen (if you make a mistake with the pen you can paint back over =] ). Then, get like a pritt stick lid, or just a cut piece of potato, and use that - you'll get perfect circles!
Or see if you can find a stencil in an arts and craft shop!! =]
